Grandmaster Flash

Joseph Saddler or Grandmaster Flash is a musician considered as one of the pioneers of the Rap, of the Hip hop, the Scratch and the Remix. He is the inventor of certain techniques like the cutting . Always inventive, DJ uses its feet and its toes for scratcher .

Biography

Joseph was born on January 1st 1958 with the Barbados but grew with New York in the district of the Bronx.

Its speed and its dexterity are at the origin of its nickname Flash (like Flash Gordon), like its skill to change discs with the feet, the hands behind the back are worth the title of Grandmaster to him.

It had acquired this dexterity by noticing that another DJ, Kool Herk, was often mistaken at the time to pass a disc. It thus decided to learn the techniques from DJs of discotheque, in particular the fact of listening to the disc which one is on the point of passing with ear-phones.

Grandmaster Flash was often more occupied changing its discs than to encourage the public to dance as did it other DJs of the Block-Parts. It then decided to ask friends to do it in his place. Soon, those had enough to make anything else only encourage the public and decided to tell other topics like their life in the ghetto.

Moreover, Grandmaster Flash is that which improved the scratch.

Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five

It forms its own group at the end of the Seventies composed of Cowboy (Keith Wiggins) Miss Mel (Melvin Glover) - which in spite of its nickname is a man - and Kid Creole (Nathaniel Glover). Two others MC will arrive thereafter, Rahiem (Guy Todd Williams - who was member of the Funky 4+1) and Scorpio (Eddie Morris) to form Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five . They gained a Disque of gold with Freedom after having signed on Sugarhill Records in 1980.

In 1980, Bleached, in “Rapture”, sings “Flash is fast, Flash cool is”.

In 1981, it leaves: “The Adventures off Grandmaster Flash and the Wheels off Steel”.

Their larger hit was The Message , in 1982, which became platinum disc in less than one month.

Grandmaster will leave Sugar Hill Records in 1983 and it group will be more or less dissolves in 1984.

Return in solo

In 1998, it makes its return with Flash is Back , the named good. The same year, he plays for the Super Bowl. He also occurs in front of Tony Blair and the Queen of England.
