Grandeyrolles
Grandeyrolles is a common French, located in the department of the Puy-de-Dôme and the area Auvergne.
Its inhabitants is called Grandeyrollais.
The commune of Grandeyrolles is in what the geographers call " the countries coupés" , i.e. those which make the junction between the flat rich person of Limagne and the mountains of volcanic origin of the chains of the " Puys" and of the " Dores" (Puy of dome, puy of Sancy…) It lies between the " Couze Chambon" and the brook of the " Ravine of Quinsat" with one relief extrèmement tormented: ravines, headlands escarpés and rare plates on which were established, of old date, the poor exploitations whose products were frequently devastated by the storms and other bad weather, considering the declivity of the grounds. Grandeyrolles was thus never a prosperous commune and its population remained extremely limited: a maximum of 143 inhabitants in 1872, a minimun of 49 in 1982. In 2007 it counts a good about sixty it, to which many secondary residents are added. There is no more, in this commune, of buildings to be sold, all was restored and the village makes from now on the admiration of the many hikers who traverse his famous paths. Without trade, (except the inn of the " Rivalet"), without craftsman, the commune became a vacation resort for its pensioners and some younger working in Clermont or in the neighbouring cities. The calm one is the most notable characteristic, with the great satisfaction of its inhabitants.
History
Human presence in the shelters - under - rock, with the top of the hamlet of Thones the Old one towards 20 to 15.000 before JC.Church of the 11th century. Then construction of the tower of Kidney about the 13th century. This one is related to a division between two brothers, Co-lords of Montaigut the White.
