Grandcamp-Maisy
Grandcamp-Maisy is a common French, located in the department of the Calvados and the area Basse-Normandie.
Its inhabitants is called the Grandcopais or Grandcamp-Maiserais .
Geography
Grandcamp-maisy is located in Normandy, more precisely in Basse-Normandie, in the Calvados at thirty minutes of Bayeux. It belongs to the beaches of the unloading it is a tourist resort.
History
This commune is close to the Pointe of Hoc, and has a history strongly marked by the unloading of 1944 at the time of the Bataille of Normandy, it is released by the Allies on June 8th, 1944 and will receive the Marshal Charles de Gaulle. Located between the town of Géfosse-Fontenay and Vierville-on-Sea it belongs to the course of the beaches of the unloading. The commune consists of an association of Grandcamp-the-baths and Maisy in 1972, then into 1992 of a fusion. Grandcamp-Maisy is famous for its scallops.

Places and monuments
One from now on celebrates monument was established in Grancamp-Maisy, it acts of the statue of Peace. Out of étincelant steel, carved by the Chinese artist Yao Yuan set up for the 60e anniversary of the Normandy landing in Normandy. The economic activities of Grandcamp-Maisy are based on fishing and tourism, very famous for its fresh scallop and its fish. One also fishes there shrimp in the discovered rocks with low tide which makes the pleasure of the holiday makers. Grandcamp-maisy has also a center of ostreiculture. To develop fishing a basin of refuge was built in 1926, before this date a wood ear moving towards the sea made it possible the boats to moor. This ear is always accessible thanks to its regular maintenance.
