Grand Prix 4
Grand Prix 4 is the last shutter of a series of video games developed by Geoff Crammond. Left in October 2002 on PC and initially envisaged then cancelled for Xbox, there to date remains the best play of simulation of Formula 1 in the spirit of much of players. Grand Prix 4 is limited, in spite of its exit in 2002, at season 2001 of Formule 1.
Distributed by Microprose before the label is not repurchased by Infogrames, it seems well that Grand Prix 4 (GP4) is the last opus of this series. That is not as much due to a more or less successful business success than with the fact that the original company of the series was closed.
The most serious competitor of Grand Prix 4 is developed by Electronic Arts. It is about the series including/understanding F1 2002 and F1 Challenge. (F1 1999, F1 2000 etc until F1 Challenge, 1999-2002) Nevertheless, the series was stopped it also after the purchase by Sony of the official license of the seasons of Formula 1 per one long life, which applied a brake at the development of plays of F1.
The series
The series Grand Prix created by Geoff Crammond is inaugurated in 1992 on Amiga, Atari ST and PC with Microprose Formula One Grand Prix . This play for the time was very in advance, with the management of the rain, of the damage and an engine well conceived 3D.The most outstanding shutter will remain Grand Prix 2 left in 1996. Revolutionist for the time, it never yet gives a realism of race considering and profits finally from an official license, but from the season 1994.
The third shutter leaves in 2000 but disappoints by a graphic engine a little exceeded and licenses of championship late (1998 for GP3) whereas other concurrent series as F1 Racing Championship propose more recent seasons. Moreover, the programmers will leave a Add one season 2000 for this discussed shutter.
The fourth shutter of the saga, and undoubtedly the last since Sony holds exclusiveness with its Formula One, proposed an excellent graphic quality and an always thorough realism of race (random rain, detailed adjustments).
An inexhaustible play
The series of the Grand Prix is inexhaustible since the fans make live and prolong the pleasure of the play by proposing regularly patchs springtides in progress, fictitious seasons and cars as well as mods to play other competitions (DTM, WP…) one finds even a patch season 2005 for the first Grand Prix going back to 1993, whereas the MOD 2006 for GP4 left.
