Granby (Quebec)

Granby (decides/ɡʁambe/) is a city of the Quebec located in the regional Municipalité of county of High-Yamaska the, the administrative area of the Montérégie, and the tourist area of the Canton-of-the Is.
Granby counts a hospital, a CÉGEP, a public library, a zoological garden (Zoo of Granby) and a center of interpretation of nature (Cinlb). It is located halfway between Montreal and Sherbrooke by borrowing the Autoroute 10.
Following the municipal referendum which took place on May 28th, 2006, Granby became, on January 1st, 2007, a new municipality formed by the city and its canton.
It should be noted that Granby is the birthplace of Canadian Jos St-Onge, an athlete who evolved/moved in the medium of the boxing and which was one of best the pugilist of its time in Quebec during the years '20 and '30.

- 1803 : Erection of the canton of Granby
- 1845: Constitution of the municipality of the canton of Granby
- 1847: Abolition of the municipality by the creation of the municipality of the county of Shefford
- July 1st 1855: Constitution of the municipality of the canton of Granby by its detachment of the county.
- January 1st 1859: The municipality of the village of Granby is detached from the canton.
- 1916 : the village of Granby becomes the quoted of Granby .
- 1971 : The city of Granby changes its statute for that of city.
- 2001 : The Operation Phoenix modified the structure of the service sets fire to (police officer-firemen) for a service at part times. It is however still about a public safety (52 firemen part times, 4 frameworks full-times) + 1100 calls per year.
- January 1st 2007: Fusion enters the city and the canton of Granby to form the town of Granby .

Toponym
The name of marquis Granby is given to a title of nobility of the Pairie of England in 1703. The title is created for the 1st Duc of Rutland John Manners. The most famous marquis Granby is the son of the 3rd duke John Manners, a general achieves and a popular figure of his time.
