They are characterized by long posterior legs allowing them impressive jumps. They should not be confused with the Gerbille S which belong to the family of the Muridés and which have a less long tail and back legs compared to the size of the body.
A famous gerboise
The gerboise of Africa (or German Springmäuse) inspired in 1990 with the German draftsman Thomas Goletz the character of Diddl which quickly became a favorite of the children and teenagers of Europe at the beginning of the 21e century.
