Grado is an Italian commune of the Province of Gorizia in Friuli-Venezia Giulia.
the city is built on an island between the lagoon of Grado and the sea Adriatique. The principal island is an important tourist and thermal center.

The city was born in 452, when many inhabitants of Aquilée fled their city because of the raids of the Huns of Attila and were established on the island. In 568, following the invasions of the Lombards, the patriarchat of Aquilée was transferred to Grado.
