History
The sources make known the existence of several Gradlon, of which Gradlon Meur quoted with the Cartulaire of Landévennec, but also Gradlon Flam and Gradlon Plueneuor (Plonéour). They are generally described as Consul , which one can include/understand as Count - as the Latin texts translate the Breton title of mac' htiern by Tyran . He would have more probably lived between Ve and IXe century.
At the time Gallo-Roman, the capital of the Osismes - predecessors of Cornouaillais, Trégorrois and Léonards - was Carhaix. And if there was a city on Odet it were not yet Quimper, but a little downstream, in the current district of Locmaria. In its Quimper beginnings was not called Corisoptiensis , it is a mistake in late interpretation, but more probably (and thus without certainty), Civitas Aquilonia .
However the toponyms reveal a “castle” known as of Saint-Corentin in the district of the cathedral of Quimper, district called with the Middle Ages Turn of Chastel. And under the Ancien Mode Quimper will bear the name of Quimpercorentin.
Vestiges of an aristocratic residence of IXe-Xe centuries associated with workshops with goldsmithery on the Mountain with Locronan could be one of the places to be able and creation of richness which the various princes had exploited exerting an authority on the area of Quimper to the Top Moyen-âge.
