Grímsey

Grímsey is small a Icelandic island located at 40 km in the North of the coast of the Iceland, directly on the Arctic Circle ().

Grímsey measures 5,3 km ² for a maximum altitude of 105 nearest Mr. the ground is the island of Flatey, 39,4 km more in the South. Grímsey is however not the ground more in North of Iceland, the small island of Kolbeinsey, 74 km in the North-West, holding this title.

Grímsey is however the area inhabited more in North of the country and counted in 2004, 92 inhabitants. Administratively, it forms the municipality of Grímseyjarhreppur and is attached to the county of Eyjafjarðarsýsla. Principal industry is the fishing. The island is connected to the remainder of the country three times per week by a ferry which joined Dalvíkurbyggð. It has a small airport (code IATA GRY) and scheduled flights are ensured between the island and Akureyri.
