The business Grégory is a legal business French started in 1984 after the murder of a young boy, Grégory Villemin.

Facts

In the evening of the October 16th 1984, the body of Grégory Villemin, four years old, is discovered in the Vologne. The child died drowned, bound hands and legs, with Docelles, seven kilometers downstream from Lépanges-on-Vologne, where he lived with his parents, Christine and Jean-Marie Villemin.

The following day, the October 17th, an anonymous letter addressed to Jean-Marie Villemin asserts the crime. “ I hope that you will die of sorrow, the chief. It is not your money which will be able to give again you your sons. Here is my revenge, poor idiot ”, writes a mysterious corbel. At the village, Jean-Marie Villemin is jalousé although its social success is not arrogant.

Bernard Laroche, first cousin of Jean-Marie Villemin, is denounced by Muriel, his sister-in-law fifteen year old. She retracts, and he clamp her innocence, but he is accused of the crime by the examining magistrate of Épinal, Jean-Michel Lambert, the November 5th 1984.

The February 4th 1985, the judge, against the opinion of the public ministry, releases Bernard Laroche, who resumes his work. The March 29th, it is cut down of a rifle shot by Jean-Marie Villemin who charges the assassination of her son to him.

The rumor in the area implies that the corbel and murderer could be the mother of Grégory, which was seen at the Post office the drama day before. The July 5th 1985, Lambert judge accuses Christine Villemin of assassination and the place under committal order. Eleven days later, the court of criminal appeal of Nancy, noting the complete absence of loads, releases it. Its case divides the actors of the business radically, between those which are persuaded of its innocence and those which consider it guilty. Marguerite Duras, in an article published by the daily newspaper Release, will qualify the crime, that it allots to him, of “ sublimates, inevitably sublimates ”. At the end of seven years of an investigation which does not reveal any index showing it, Christine Villemin profits from a Non-lieu the February 3rd 1993, withdrawal of case returned for " complete absence of charges" , a first in criminal law (it acted by there recalling that the file of instruction was empty loads against it).

The investigation will be the occasion of all the skids: violations of the secrecy of the instruction and the private life; party-taken press; miss precautions of the investigators in the collection of the indices; indecision of the magistrates; competition exacerbated between the Gendarmerie and the SRPJ; inexperience of the examining magistrate. Although the business impassions the public opinion, the murderer forever who been able to be identified.

At the beginning of 2003, the hope was started again by the analysis of DNA present on a half-stamp which could have preserved the saliva of the “ corbel ”. The analyzes did not give anything. The February 3rd 2003, the file of the murder of Grégory Villemin, not elucidated, is definitively closed. The French State is condemned the June 28th 2004 to pour 35.000 euros of allowances for “heavy fault” with each Villemin husband, who lives from now on in the Essonne.

Anecdotes

Jean-Marie Villemin was judged for the assassination of Bernard Laroche in November 1993 with Dijon, where the business had been dépaysée. After six weeks of audience, he is condemned to five years of prison including one with deferment. Two weeks later, having purged the essence of its sorrow at the time of preventive detention, it is released. Lambert judge, who had lacked control of the file, is qualified by the judges of “memorable funambulist of the thought”.

Against the opinion of the parquet floor, the room of the instruction of the Court of Appeal of Paris refused the application of rehabilitation of Jean-Marie Villemin, condemned in 1993 to five years of imprisonment for the assassination of his/her cousin Bernard Laroche, whom it suspectait to have killed his son. Jean-Marie Villemin forever disputed to be the author of the murder of her cousin but the law allows very condemned to deposit a request in rehabilitation. What it had done in April 2005.

Laurence Lacour, To rough-hew It innocent , ED. Arenas, appeared in 1993, republished in 2006, 1st price of the book of investigation 2006. Then, young journalist with Europe 1, it had remained four years in the Vosges to cover the course of the business. In its book, she reports the drama and the skids of the journalists, investigators and magistrates. According to it, the Grégory business led to several reforms: the criminal creation of the Research institute within the National police and votes it first law on the Présomption of innocence in January 1993. She also considers that the business caused in the journalists, a certain awakening of the possible shelves in the treatment of the various facts.

Pascal Bonitzer and Raoul Peck, adapted this book to write the scenario of a telefilm, recalling the drifts and the bounces of the investigation. Realized by Raoul Peck, the Business Villemin , is diffused on France 3, the 28,29 and October 30th 2006 in 6 episodes of 55 mn: the Lightning , the Pack , the Gears , Skid , the Tracking and the Hope . Only the Villemin husbands - played by Armelle Deutsch and Francis Renaud - and the journalist, Laurence Lacour agreed to keep their identity.

Today, it leaves its silence while bringing accurate informations on the beginnings of the investigation and answers the charges whose gendarmerie was the target by raising certain questions. Why were they deprived with the profit of the police force whereas they knew already much things and that they were on the point of touching with the goal? Why was it necessary nine years for justice to arrive at the same conclusions as those returned by the gendarmerie at the end of three weeks? Nevertheless, it pays homage to fire President Simon to have had courage to give up the loads against Christine Villemin. It is not on the other hand tender with Lambert judge, the Corazzi police chief and the press.
