Gowin Knight

Gowin Knight (1713 - June 8th 1772), contractor and scientific English born with Corringham in England.
Knight is the inventor of a process for to durably magnetize steel more strongly and that the natural magnets towards 1740. It does not publish its method, at the time the Brevet S do not exist and the secrecy is the only means of preserving an advantage on its competitors, however its results are published in the Philosophical Transactions in 1744, Article 8, and 1745, Article 3. Its trade secrets die mainly with him.
Its reputation enables him to sign from large contracts with the royal marine British to provide the Boussole S of all their vessels. Patricia Fara, in her book Fatal Attraction point that the sailors of the time do not consider the compasses of Knight usable in open sea but that they are not listened to.
