Governorship of Tozeur

The governorship of Tozeur (rear RTL ولايةتوزر), created the June 21st 1956, is one of the 24 Gouvernorat S of the Tunisia. It is located in the south-west of the country, at the border of the Algérie, and covers a Superficie of 4719 km ² (either 2,9% of the surface of the country). It shelters a population of 99.400 inhabitants, which makes of it the governorship less populated of Tunisia. Its Chef-lieu is Tozeur.

Geography

The governorship of Tozeur is limited by the Gouvernorat of Gafsa to the North-East, the Gouvernorat of Kébili in south-east and Algeria in the North-West.

Administratively, it is cut out into 5 rural delegations, 5 municipalities, 4 councils and 36 Imada S.

The Climat is there of desert type: the average temperature is of 23°C and the Précipitation S vary between 0,7 and 10,7 millimetres according to the delegations.

Economy

The governorship is known by the production of the Datte S Deglet nour .

It counts a Active population of 30.000 people distributed between the Industrie (7,6%), the Agriculture (26,1%), the Construction industry (15,3%), the services (25,6%) and the administration (22,8%).

The economy of the area is based primarily on the tourist agricultural sector and . Indeed, the area counts 658 Hectare S of Légume S, 222 hectares of reserved spaces to the market gardenings and 8369 hectares of Arboriculture including 75% of date palms.

The area currently experiences a spectacular development of Saharan tourism: Tozor has a diversified tourist infrastructure comprising units of receptions varied (38 hotel units of a capacity of reception of 5440 beds), means of attractive leisures (ground of Golf, museum of international repute, immense palm plantation, oasis of mountain and cascades).
