Government in exile

A government in exile is a political group which asserts the fact of being the legitimate Gouvernement of a Pays, but which for various reasons is not able to exert its power and resides in a foreign country. The governments in exile generally leave the principle which it will turn over one day in their country of origin and will take again the capacity.

The governments in exile frequently occur during the military occupations. For example, during the German expansion of the Second world war, of many governments and monarchs found refuge with the the United Kingdom.

  • the République of China is a particular case: although the government asserts sovereignty on all the China, Nankin regards as its capital and is seen like a government in exile, it controls nevertheless in an effective way all the island of Taiwan.
