- January 16th:
- Election of Vincent Auriol with the presidency of IVe Republic until in 1954. Beginning of the IV republic in France (end in 1958).
- Resignation of the president of the council of the Government Leon Blum (3).
- January 22nd: Beginning of the government Paul Ramadier (1) president of the Council. It is the first government of the IV {{E}} République and it gathers the centrists (MRP), the Socialists (SFIO) and the Communists (PCF) (three-party government).
- In January: Adoption of the plan “of modernization and equipment”, plane Monnet.
- April 7th: The general Charles de Gaulle founds the Rassemblement of French people (RPF).
- April 25th: Beginning of the strike of the factories “Renault”.
- May 5th: The communist ministers are returned government. End of the three-party government and creation of the third force (SFIO + radical + MRP).
- October 19th: Victoire of the RPF (gaullists) to the municipal elections (Oct. 19-26).
- October 21st: End of the government Paul Ramadier (1) .
- October 22nd: Beginning of new the Government Paul Ramadier (2)
