Gov\' T Mule

Gov' T Mule (abbreviation of Government Mule ) is a group of music American, founded in 1994 by Warren Haynes (Guitare and Chant), Allen Woody (low) and Matt Abts (battery).

History

The group is in the parallel beginning only one project for Warren Haynes and Allen Woody, both members of the Allman Brothers Band, who wish to assemble a Jam band and a Power trio. After two albums studios ( Gov' T Mule and Amount ), they however decide to be devoted full-time to Gov' T Mule and leave Allman Brothers Band on March 26th, 1997.

In August 2000, Allen Woody dies. Warren Haynes and Matt Abts consider one moment to dissolve the group, but finally decide to continue. They record in homage to Allen Woody two albums studios ( The Deep End volume 1 & 2) on which are invited twenty-five different bass players, selected among preferred of their missing companion. Mike Gordon, bass player of Phish, films the sessions of recording, which will lead to documentary the Rising Low .

It is finally Andy Hess which becomes, in 2004, the new permanent bass player of the group. The trio benefits from it to become a quartet, also integrating Danny Louis (keyboards).

Origin of the name

An adopted law in January 1865 promised to the freed slaves " 40 acres and a mule". But Andrew Johnson, which becomes president of the the United States in April of the same year following the assassination of Lincoln, will refuse to apply it. The mule of the government will be thus a not held promise…

Policy of recording in the concerts

Since its beginnings, the group authorized, and even favoured, the recording (audio) in its concerts, as well as the division, the exchange and the diffusion of those, provided that is done free (and made exeption in the concerts published by the group with business ends).
Since October 15th, 2004, the group markets all its concerts (available in remote loading starting from its Internet site). These recording have value of official recordings. Since this date thus, even if the policy of recording remains unchanged, it is not possible any more to share, exchange or diffuse the new concerts.
