Gourdon is a common French, located in the department of the the Alpes-Maritimes and the area Provence-Alp-Coast of Azure. Its inhabitants is the Gourdonnais .
Geography
The Village of Gourdon is perched on a vertiginous peak and overhangs the valley of the Loup. This site was worth to him the nickname of “Eyrie”. It belongs to the 149 more beautiful villages of France and has two flowers with the Concours of the cities and flowered villages.
History
The village of Gourdon, by its positioning strategic, proved, since millenia, an exceptional place of defense. Of this military past, there remain nothing any more but the vestiges of a Roman Camp with double enclosure and Oppidum, and imposing the ramparts which protects the northern side from the place. The door Romane which guaranteed the access to the village was destroyed at the beginning of the XX {{E}} Siècle. The medieval castle is opened to the visitors since 1950.
