Gottlieben

Gottlieben is a Commune Switzerland canton of Thurgovie.

Geography

Gottlieben is one of the smallest communes of Switzerland. It is located on the arm of the the Rhine which connects the lake of Constancy to Untersee, at 4 km as the crow flies of Kreuzlingen.

History

The borough was strengthened by the bishop Eberhard von Waldburg in 1251. It acquired the right of market at the end of the XVIIe century.

During the Council of Constancy, in 1415, the Czech reformer Jan Hus and the antipape Jean XXIII, deposited by the Church, stagnated in the oubliettes of the castle.

Of 1798 with 1874, Gottlieben was the chief town of district. Since 1874, this role is reserved for Kreuzlingen.

Economy

The main activity of the commune is tourism. The place is moreover known for its Gottlieber Hüppen, softnesses filled with the praline-flavoured ice cream or the nougat. {of} Article in Wikipédia
