Gottlieb Duttweiler

Gottlieb Duttweiler (August 15th 1888, Zurich - June 8th 1962, Rüschlikon) was a contractor and politician Suisse. He was the founder of the Coopérative Migros and of the party the Alliance of Independent the.

Before Migros

  • It decides to give its company to its customers and for this reason Migros transforms into Coopérative.
  • For reasons morals, it prohibits the sale of alcohol and of tobacco in Migros
  • It inaugurates the self-service stores.
  • It extends its activities to the distribution of gasoline (Migrol).
  • It launches out in the press with Die Tat (daily as of 1939).
  • It supports the training of the adults with the School Migros Club.
But, it must constantly fight against its competitors which badly accepted its irruption in the new economic life and its methods. Migros became one of the two principal distribution companies in Switzerland with Coop.

The policy

  • Duttweiller was also to advise national 1935 with 1940 then of 1943 with 1949.
  • In 1949, it replaces Friedrich Traugott Wahlen with the Conseil of the States but its seat at the time of the elections of 1951 does not manage to preserve.
  • It will sit again at the National council until his death in 1962.
  • Five years after its death, its party, the Alliance of Independent the, will reach the maximum manpower of 16 seats at the National council and one with the Council of the States in 1967, becoming thus the fifth Swiss party. But the party is not represented any more with the federal Assemblée since 2003.
  • During its career, Duttweiler had contacts with Antoine Pinay.
