Gottfried Langenstein
Gottfried Langenstein is the president of the Franco-German chain ARTE.
Biography
Born with Munich in 1954, he studies in Munich and Paris philosophy, psychology and political sciences. At the end of its studies in 1985, it receives a purse of 3rd cycle and obtains its doctorate in philosophy in 1989.In 1986 and 1987, it ensures the coordination of the exposure “sciences to Berlin”. It enters to the direction of the international Businesses of the second channel of public television “ZDF” in 1987. In 1989, it takes the head of the Service of the international relations for one 5 years period. In parallel, he is assistant editor of the international Businesses of 1990 to 1994. This year there, it is named with the head of this service, posts that it will occupy until 2000.
It directs moreover the Commission of the festivals of the ZDF of 1994 to 2000, it is member of the Board of trustees of the company Transtel GMBH of 1996 to 2000 and of 1998 to 2000, he is Vice-président of the Committee Television of the European Union of broadcasting (UER) and Person in charge of the online services of the ZDF. Since February 2000, he is Directeur of the European satellite programs of the ZDF (3sat, ZDFtheaterkanal, ZDFinfokanal and ZDFdokukanal). From 2003 to 2006, he was in parallel Vice-président of ARTE G.E.I.E. He reached the Presidency of ARTE on January 1st, 2007.
Gottfried Langenstein is member of the Max-Planck-Gesellschaft, of the Committee Media of the Goethe Institute, the Board of trustees of Medien- U. Filmgesellschaft of Bade-Wurtemberg, Strategic Council of European Institute off the Media, Strategic Council of International Broadcasting Corporation and in charge of the co-operation with the Foundation Preußischer Kulturbesitz.
Gottfried Langenstein is Chevalier of the Legion of Honor.
