Gottfried August Bürger

Gottfried August Bürger ( Geoffroy Auguste Burger ) (January 1st 1747 - June 8th 1794), German poet, born in Molmerswende close to Halberstadt.

He became professor with Goettingue, after having carried out a romantic and disordered life. He excelled in the ballade and exploited with talent the popular legends and superstitions of which:

  • Léonore ;
  • the wild Hunter ;
  • the Girl of Pasteur .

He also wrote lovesongs:

  • Fleur of wonder ;
  • the good-bye ;
  • the Elegy with Molly .

And translated into German and largely altered, Adventures of the baron de Münchhausen .

Its works were joined together in 4 volumes, Goettingue, 1796 - 1798 and Leipzig, 1857.
