The islands Gotō (五島列島 Gotō rettō , literally: " the chain of islands of the five îles") are Japanese islands in the east of the China Sea, on the west coast of Kyushu. The islands belong to the Préfecture of Nagasaki to the Japan.

Geography

There are 140 islands on the whole, including five principal:
  • Fukuejima (福江島)
  • Hisakajima (久賀島)
  • Narushima (奈留島)
  • Wakamatsujima (若松島)
  • Nakadōrijima (中通島)

The archipelago extends on approximately 85km and is centered with 32°45' 03N 128°27' 30E. In north the island of Tsushima in the strait of Korea is, and E is the island of Kyushu and the remainder of the Prefecture of Nagasaki. The archipelago is with approximately 100km port of Nagasaki City. The power of Tsushima (a branch of Kuroshio) is on around the islands.

The islands are cultivated intensely but the stags abound, and the trouts are common in the brooks of mountain.

Following a fusion in 2004, the town of Gotō was founded. It gathers the islands of Fukuejima, Hisakajima, Narushima, and seven other uninhabited islands. The town of Shinkamigoto, itself produces it of a fusion in 2004, gathers the islands of Nakadōrijima and Wakamatsujima.

Demography

The majority of the inhabitants are of Christian confession.

Products

The seafood, such as oysters and the sea urchins is the principal products of the archipelago. The oil of the CAMELIA of Fukuejima is famous in Japan for the cosmetic use.
