Gorgoroth is a group of Black founded metal in 1992, with Bergen in Norway by Infernus (guitars), Hat (vocal) and Goatpervertor (battery). The group, with the passing of years, changed members many times, except for Infernus. The name " Gorgoroth " is drawn from the Seigneur of the Rings. Gorgoroth is probably one of the groups most anchored in the Satanisme.

History

Its foundation in 1992, Gorgoroth play a black very dark and brutal metal. The group leaves its first demonstration ( has Sorcery Written in Blood ) in 1993. This demonstration will be useful inter alia for Split with Burzum, entitled Burzum & Gorgoroth . A little later the group signs with Embassy Records and starts to record a first album, Pentagram . It is with this first very believed album and old school that Gorgoroth starts to be made a name in the underground of Bergen. One finds there in particular Samoth, of the formation Emperor, with low.

After the exit of Pentagram , Goat leaves the group and is replaced for the time of another disc by Frost, of Satyricon. In 1996 leaves Antichrist , the second album which combines cold and satanic environment. Pest and Hat exchange the vocal ones while Infernus remains with low and with the guitars. Antichrist confirms them and allows them to play with groups such as Satyricon, Burzum, Cradle off Filth or Dissection and thus to make known a little everywhere in the scenes black metal of the north of the Europe, especially in Norway, where Gorgoroth starts to leave the shade of Mayhem, Darkthrone or Emperor. Today still, Antichrist and Pentagram are recognized by several as being traditional albums of the black metal Norwegian.

The exit of Under the Sign off Hell (1997), 3rd album of the group, shows that the group remains purist kind black metal. The quality of the sound remains bad and violence is always also present. The extracts are at the same time melody and raw. Pest is of return to vocal and Grim deals with the battery.

In 1998, Gorgoroth signs at Nuclear Blast and leaves Destroyer . Many musicians contributed to this album with amongst other things a new singer, Ghaal, which appears on the song-title of the album. The remainder of vocal is ensured by Pest and T-reaper. Vrolok and Frost exchange the battery, while Infernus does not deal any more but with the principal guitar, the low one and the second guitar being ensured per Ares and Tormentor. Destroyer, though remaining very minimalist side production, proposes a kind of black more experimental metal per moment with more technical and complex fronts side guitar.

Gorgoroth continues on its impetus and leaves the year according to Incipit Satan , which explores new horizons. Although it is still Infernus which composes all, the sound becomes clearer and the melodies become more experimental, even progressive. One can even distinguish some industrial passages. However, one always recognizes the eternal side dark satanist of Gorgoroth, in particular in the words of Infernus and the titles. For the first time, the group known as to maintain a formation stable for several concerts and albums. Ghaal ensures the vocal one, King the low one, Infernus and Tormentor the guitars, and Sjt. Erichsen the battery.

After several concerts, Gorgoroth leaves Twilight off the Idols in 2003. The album shows a return towards a style of black more primitive and believed metal, but remains however quite different from those which the group left during the " years of or" Black metal (more or less first half of the years 1990). For the first time, it was not Infernus which composed totality of the album but well King, always bass player of the group. After Twilight off the Idols , the contract ended with Nuclear Blast and Gorgoroth signed then with Regain Records. In 2004, the group showed scandal (" Anecdote" low) in Poland.

The first album with this new company of disc arrived in 2006 with AD Majorem Sathanas Gloriam . For the recording, Ghaal, King and Infernus was joined by Frost with the battery, its 3rd presence on an album of Gorgoroth. For the second time, all the songs have summers composed by the King bass player. This last left however the group in 2006 due to " divergences of opinions" with Infernus and Ghaal (communicated official site of Gorgoroth, 2006). The group is thus limited to a guitarist (Infernus) and a singer (Ghaal). The two members being with the catches with legal problems (Infernus for drug possession hard, of weapons of war and for a large negligence in a rape case, Ghaal for way of facts and death threats) Gorgoroth is practically absent from scene in 2006.

In March 2007, Infernus is slackened on word after 120 days of prison. He consequently affirms on Internet site of the group to have begun again the composition for a possible album for 2007 and at the same time, to record a clip for a part of AD Majorem Sathanas Gloriam . In parallel, a documentary heading " True Norwegian Black Metal", treating mystery which planes around Ghaal, left on Internet. The group plans a Européenne round in Co-head of poster with the Belgians of Enthroned and Swedish of Tyrant.

October 21st, 2007, Infernus announces the separation of Gorgoroth: King and Gaahl of dimensioned, and Infernus of the other, 2 parts wanting chacunes to continue the group. The European round of Gorgoroth is not cancelled, King and Gaahl continuing under the name of Gorgoroth with a guitarist to replace Infernus. This decision at summer taken by King and Gaahl because they were the driving forces of the musics of Gorgoroth these 8 last years. Infernus with declared that it will put in justice King and Gaahl to continue under the name of Gorgoroth (Infernus being the only still active founding member within the group so far).

Anecdote

The June 10th 2004, at the time of a concert with Cracow in Poland (city whose Jean-Paul II, pope of the time, was cardinal Archevêque and ) the members of Gorgoroth crucifié several observers and impaled several heads of sheep on scene. The anecdote created a scandal in the Polish media, the group was prosecuted and outlaw for a certain time of Poland.
