Gorgonopsien

The gorgonopsiens was one of largest the predatory and carnivorous of the end of the Permian era . Its name refers to the gorgones of Greek mythology, these women with the hair of snakes.

Identity

Often related to the Reptile S, scientific classification classifies it today among the reptiles mammaliens, because it more approaches with the mammalian that with the reptiles from its teeth but still its legs and the bones its ears.

Physical aspect

It had the size of a large bear and a cranium of approximately 45 centimetres length, this one having a brain relatively developed. It had two canines 12 centimetres length and an identifiable dental apparatus with our, all things considered. We do not know large thing in connection with its fur nor even if it had one of them.

Distribution

This Reptile mammalien lived in the Siberian desert of the Permian era , the period driest of the primary era. The gorgonopsien finds its account in this dry climate which will lead it all the same to its loss at the end of the Permian era , for lack of food.

Food mode

It was super-predatory, the largest carnivore of the Permian era . It attacked all the preys which it côtoyait in the Siberian desert: as well the Scutosaurus as the Diictodons or the Labirynthodontes. It however never attacked the Scutosaurus when it were in bands. Not being size, he preferred to wait until those are only found, isolated and if possible with end from force to manage the death-blow to them.
