Gordon Riots

The Gordon Riots are riots anti-catholics with London, causing very important damage, which burst of the 2 to the June 10th 1780.

Lord George Gordon makes sign a petition against the easing of the statute of the catholics. The June 2nd, with 44  000 signatures, it deposits it at the Parliament, which registers the debate for the June 8th. The evening, of the demonstrators the private vaults of the catholic embassies ransack. The following days, the riots are sporadic. The Parliament defers its debate, which increases violence. The 6 and June 7th, the demonstrators are Masters of London, and the riot takes a social character. One burns the sumptuous houses without reference to political religion nor of nuance. The June 8th, the “rich person” organize themselves in a “defense association” which raises militia. The riot, repressed hard, calms the June 10th, after having cost the life 300 people. It provides the pretext to the blocking of any movement reformist to the the United Kingdom.
