Gorbio

Gorbio is a common French, located in the department of the the Alpes-Maritimes and the area Provence-Alp-Coast of Azure. Its inhabitants is the Gorbarins .

In language Niçois E (Georges Castellana), the city is called Gòrbi and its inhabitants read Gourbarenc . However Gorbio is not a country of language nissarte and to Gorbio even one says Gour , read Gourbarin . Gorbarins themselves say " Gouarbe" , attested in the Coarbo form in 1376.

Geography

Gorbio is a small village perched in a valley above Menton and Roquebrune.

History


Stronghold of the counts de Vintimille (12th and 13th centuries), then their heirs, the Lascaris family. With 18th and 18th centuries, other families, like Isnardi, De Gubernatis, Raimondi, then Corvesi, Alziari de Malaussène, Guigliotti are due to it in their turn of the shares of seigniory.

Between 1400 and 1580, the Basin families, Imbert, Maulandi, Muratore, Pastor, Raimondi and Rocca live at the village. Dental of Peillon, Giausseran de Villefranche, Lottier de Peille and Vial of Mortola settle there at the 17th century.
