Goran Bregović is a type-setter and musician resulting from old the Yugoslavia.
Biography
Goran Bregović was born the March 22nd 1950, with Sarajevo, of Serb mother and Croatian father . After a few years of Violin to the academy, it founds its first group - Bijelo dugme ( the white Button ) - at 16 years. To give pleasure with his parents, it continues, nevertheless, of the studies of philosophy and sociology. It would undoubtedly have become teaching if the enormous success of its first disc had not decided any differently.
Goran Bregović, plays of the guitar and becomes a rock'n'roll-star in Yugoslavia. With its group Bijelo dugme it produces 13 albums in fifteen years, sold on the whole to 6 million specimens. In the years 1970, it meets Emir Kusturica, scenario writer amateur and bass player in a punk group.
At the end of the Eighties, wearied of his statute of rock'n'roll star, the musician carries out his dream of kid by buying a house on the Adriatic coast . It is there that it quietly composes the original soundtrack of third film of Emir Kusturica, the Time of the Gipsies (1990). This marks the beginning of a successful collaboration. It will sign thus the original soundtracks of Arizona Dream (1993) and Underground (1995). After having worked, inter alia, for Patrice Chéreau on the Queen Margot and Radu Mihaileanu on Way of life, Goran Bregović decides to devote herself mainly to the interpretation of her own music. However, it does not give up the film music completely, since its very favorite for the Hare of Vatanen of Marc Rivière leads it to compose the original soundtrack and the song of it of film.
After having reformed, in June 2005, with an immense success, its old group Bijelo dugme for a series in concerts in three capitals of countries resulting from the ex- Yugoslavia, it took again the road in 2006 with its Orchestre of the marriages and burials, with which it furrows Europe since the middle of the years 1990. This great international round will involve it to Mexico and in the United States in 2007. He also works on two projects, of which one ordered by Musikfest Bremen (musical Celebrations of Bremen) which will be its vision of Orfeo de Monteverdi and which should be born in September 2007.
The musical style of Goran Bregovic (at least since the end of the year 1980) is based on a mixture between extremely various musical currents: traditional music of Balkans, Rock'n'roll, pop, Classical music and nun, Reggae, Tango, Electronic music, etc… He collaborated with innumerable musicians and singers of very diverse countries, among which Cesaria Evora, Ofra Haza, the Polish E Kayah, Italian S Modena City Ramblers, Corsica S Chjami Aghjalesi, etc… which gave to its music a single and métissé aspect.
Its success as from the years 1980, and especially 1990, contributed to arouse the interest for the Balkan Musique in Western Europe.
