Gopherus

Gopherus is a kind of terrestrial tortoises originating in the desert areas of North America.

Taxonomy

They are named Gopherus because of the broad and deep holes which they dig and which are useful to good number of species and consequently useful for the ecosystem. Indeed gopher indicates a " factotum" in English.
