The Good Friday is celebrated by the Christian Friday preceding Sunday by Easter. I.e. Fridays in, in and in.
It is the commemoration of the Passion (Supplice and execution of Jesus-Christ). Additional offices are held this day with readings of the New Testament and, for the catholics, a procession in twelve stations commemorating each scene leading to the crucifixion.
This day is non-working in all the countries of Christian tradition, for example in Germany, with the Canada, in New Zealand, Angola, with the the United Kingdom, in Suisse, in the Protestant cantons.
In France, the Good Friday is also non-working in the three departments of the the Low-Rhine, the Haut-Rhin and the the Moselle in consequence of the maintenance of the German legislation which had founded it, whereas it was not envisaged by the Concordat of 1801. This day in Alsace the faithful ones flow into the churches Protestant and certain which never go to the worship make a point of being present; one speaks besides about the “Christians of the Good Friday”. For the catholics, on the contrary, it was not the setting with not died of Christ but her resurrection the day of Easter which is a festival of obligation. So that, in certain mixed villages, the catholic peasants arranged themselves to return the manure in front of their endimanchés Protestant fellow-citizens… who returned the similar one to them by working on August 15th openly, Assomption celebrates. In the Island of the Meeting, the schools, the colleges and the colleges are closed this day.
“Accord of the Good Friday” ( good friday agreement ) is also the name more running of the agreements of April 10th 1998 between the Irish governments and British which opened the way with a process of Paix implying all the actors of the Conflit north-Irish.
The Église recommends to fast the Good Friday, and at the very least to eat thin (not meat in particular), which is practiced by many people of catholic origin, even not practicing.
The Prière Oremus for the Juif S at the time of the Liturgie of the Good Friday comprised an offensive mention for the Jews, including one bad translation made believe that it was at the origin of the Antijudaïsme and of the Antisémitisme. This mention was removed by Jean XXIII in 1959, and the Concile Vatican II clarified the position of the Église on the relations with the Judaïsme in the declaration Nostra Ætate (1965).
Greek orthodoxe habits
The orthodoxe litturgies did not know the Council of Thirty and have day place and night during the Holy Week. Fixed hours ago and the duration, it either, is not standard. As for the Roman Catholic religion, one leaves the Epitaph with the body the Christ of the Church, but the emphase is much larger. It is about a real procession to the torches which saunters in all the district on which the Church depends. The houses of the vicinity have their lit lights and the inhabitants spread incense. When the procession finishes, the body of Christ is placed under a platform in the court of the Church. The Good Friday is also a All Souls' Day. Many people behave as at the day of All Saints' day. The body of Christ will turn over to the Church at the time of the first resurrection (" proti anastasi") as for the catholics.
