is a studio of films and series of animation Japanese founded on September 11th, 1992 by Shōji Murahama, Mahiro Maeda, Hiroshi Yamaguchi and Shinji Higuchi.

The first animated production of the studio is Blue submarine n°6 , a series of OAV left in 1998 noticed by its use of CG. Gonzo also produced a certain number of series TV like Full Metal Panic grass! , Last Exiles or Gankutsuou .

Since 2006, Gonzo was put at the production of cartoon film of which the first was Origine .

History

In 1992, Shōji Murahama, Mahiro Maeda, Hiroshi Yamaguchi and Shinji Higuchi leaves Gainax to found their own studio. The name of the studio comes from the Italian Gonzo which means " nigaud".

During the Nineties, the studio works on animated sequences of video game such as for example Lunar: Silver Star Story Supplements left in 1996. The same year is created Digimation K.K, company which deals with the CG for the productions of the studio.

It is in 1998 that the first true project independent of the studio leaves, Blue submarine n°6 . Pioneer on the matter, it is characterized by his mixture from traditional animation and CG.

In April 2000, the Gonzo studio, then still completely independent, creates its own head office, G.D.H (Gonzo Digimation Holdings), so that this one can deal of mangagement and the strategy of company of the studio. The same year, the studio produces its first series TV, Gate keepers , diffused on the cabled chain WOWOW. In April 2002, Gonzo K.K and Digimation K.K amalgamate and become Gonzo Digimation K.K which finally simplifies its name in Gonzo K.K in July 2004.

After several successful series as Last exiles or Gankutsuou , Gonzo is tested with cartoon film in 2006 with Origine which will be followed of Brave story the same year.
