Gonzague house, line of Novellara and Bagnolo

The line of Novellara and Bagnolo is a branch “junior” by the Maison Gonzague .

The strongholds of Novellara and Bagnolo in Piano belonged to the possessions Milan eases of the family Visconti. In 1351, the son junior by Louis I {{er}}, duke of Mantoue, Feltrino is, with his/her brothers Filippino and Guy, in load of Reggio of Emilie whose Louis is the podestat since 1336. In 1356, the Milanese army tries to seize the city but is demolished by Feltrino which remains the defender about it. In 1371, Guy and Feltrino decide to sell the stronghold of Reggio to Visconti against the sum of 5 000 ducats of gold and strongholds of Novellara and Bagnolo.
Feltrino becomes lord of Novellara and of Bagnolo while Guy de Mantoue continues the line of the marquis mantouans.
A brother youngest child, resulting from the second weddings from his father, Conrad (NC-1356), will be the founder of the line of Palozzolo.

In 1425, the marquis d' Este Niccolò III invests Jacques de Novellara of the management of the channel of water of Novellara ( canale delle acque di Novellara ), of the borough of San Tommaso and of part of Santa Maria and San Giovanni nel Reggiano and, in 1471, Borso d' Este, become Duc of Modena, yields, with François de Novellara, these seigniories which will henceforth be attached to the seigniory of Novellara.
In 1510, the pope who has just confiscated, in 1509, the seigniory of Bagnolo to the four brothers Christophe, Jacques, Marc-Antoine and Guy II, entrusts it to the count Jean-Pierre de Novellara.

Guy, the last survivor of the four brothers who were also Co-lords of Vescovato, sells the stronghold of Vescovato to the marquis de Mantoue Frederic I {{er}} which will make some profit his/her brother Jean, chief of the line of Vescovato.

The line of the reigning counts stopped in 1728 with the death of Philippe Alphonse. The stronghold was then confiscated by the duke Renaud III of Modena then was conceded to him with imperial nomination.

Novellara is the name of a town of approximately 13 000 inhabitants of the Province of Reggio of Emilie to approximately 50 kilometers in the south of the town of Mantoue: to see on it: Wikipedia.
Bagnolo in Piano is the name of a small town of approximately 9 000 inhabitants of the Province of Reggio of Emilie to approximately 60 kilometers in the south of the town of Mantoue: to see on it: Wikipedia.
