Gondar (sometimes written Gonder ) is an old capital of the Ethiopia, located at the North-East of the Lac Tanned, in the old province of Bégemder, or province of Gondar.
After the transfer of the capital to Magdala by the emperor Theodore II in 1855, Gondar was plundered by the mahdist S Sudan board in 1887, occupied by the Italy NS of 1935 or 1936 to 1941, then bombarded by the Britanniques in 1941. Gondar counted 112 000 inhabitants in 1994. It still shelters many ruins of the imperial palaces, many churches, as well as buildings of fascistic architecture inherited the Italian occupation.
