Gometz-le-Châtel
Gometz-le-Châtel is a common French, located in the department of the the Essonne and the area Île-de-France. The inhabitants are Castelgometziens.
Geography
The commune is located on the plate of Hurepoix.The crossing of the village, like that of Gometz-the-City, was tiresome a long time for the inhabitants of the south of the plate going to their work in north (frequent congestions). Since 2003, a deviation mitigates these problems.
History and monuments
The village is attested as of 1068. The Saint-Clearly Church, dating from the XIe to the XVIe centuries, is classified historic building.
Saint-Clearly, monk evangelist, discovered there at the 7th century a fountain known as miraculous , which was the object of a pilgrimage until in 1870.
Old the railway line from Paris to Chartres by Gallardon passed by Gometz-le-Châtel. An important work of art, the viaduct of the Warblers, is with horse on the communes of Gometz-le-Châtel and Bore-hole-on-Yvette.
Between 1966 and 1977, Gometz-le-Châtel is the terminus of the experimental line of Aérotrain, established between Gometz and Limours on the platform of the old line from Paris to Chartres, closed down since the post-war period. In June 2004, the roundabout located at the castelgometzienne end of the deviation mentioned above was baptized “ large gyratory of the engineer Jean Bertin ”, in remembering the inventor of the hovertrain. A section of way was installed on the quay level of this roundabout. A sculpture of Georges Saulterre, commemorative of the hovertrain, was installed on a roundabout at the exit of Gometz-the-City, with the junction of the aforesaid deviation.
In 1975, part of Gometz-le-Châtel, as well as part of Gometz-the-City, were joined together with Gif-sur-Yvette to form the district of Chevry.
At January 1st 2004, the commune entered the Communauté of agglomeration of the plate of Saclay.
Culture
The writer Charles Péguy lived in Gometz-le-Châtel. In its poem Presentation of Bauce with Notre-Dame of Chartres , it evokes the village in these terms:
