Golubac

Golubac , in Serb Cyrillic Голубац, is a locality and a municipality of Serbia located on Right Bank of the the Danube, in the district of Braničevo, at the border of the Romania. In 2002, the locality counted: 1896 inhabitants and the municipality of which it is the center: 9913.
The name of Golubac derives from a word Serbe " golub" , which means " the colombe".
The locality is located close to many archeological sites.
The national park of Đerdap attracts many tourists.
Near the city is the Forteresse of Golubac (into Serb Cyrillic Голубачкиград), which goes back to the 14th century. Golubac was also the theater of a battle against the Turks in 1428; the Polish knight Zawisza Czarny was made there prisoner.
