Gold mine of the Castle of Ampoigné
At the entry of the commune of Ampoigné to some steps and in the east of the parish church, the Castle of Ampoigné , At the XVIIe century, some claimed that the well of the castle of Ampoigné contained a Gold mine. Indeed, towards 1688, Jean Leroux, former officer of the attic with salt of Pouancé, addressed a report to the Intendant of Turns, a report in which it ensured that the invaluable ore existed in the well of the castle. The intendant transmitted to his turn the famous report with the controller-general; he could accept the presence of a gold mine in the well of Ampoigné. Charged with bringing the proof of its dires, Leroux reduced in this well " a poor fellow, whereas water was low, under pretext of find his bowl fallen inadvertently ". It is told that the bowl could be gone up and paid " full of a sand interfered gold mine ". Entirely satisfied with this discovery, Leroux sent the bowl and contents to the intendant with the council of " not to refer some to the lord of Ampoigné " , simple gentleman, more attached to his property than with the interest of the king, which, under the terms of article 6 of the Habit of Anjou, had right on all and the money gold mines of the kingdom. This discovery did not have however a continuation! The Abbé Angot note that it was announced to him that the ground could contain Sulfure of iron which would more or less have a gilded aspect.
