Gold bearing Rivers

There exist gold bearing rivers in several areas of France, whose Armorican Massif, Normandy, Massif Central, the Pyrenees, the Alps and is France.

Alluvial layers

Gold is in placers, which are gravel beaches, located in the rivers and container of the gold concentrations. In these placers native gold meets in more or less large particles (spangles or nuggets) mixed with the sand of the rivers and which come from the disintegration of seams. Gold is also in pots which are rock anfractuosities at the bottom of the bed.

There are two gold bearing types of placers in France: Placers of beaches. and the pots which are rock anfractuosities having trapped gold. The torrential rivers to strong slopes can contain only pots, because the current velocity does not make it possible gold to settle. The rivers of plains with average slope, contain placers of beaches and pots. In the areas low in gold and having only placers of beaches with low contents, it can exist pots with very strong contents. The rich areas are the department of the Gard and Ariège, which have placers of beaches and pots. In the others one should seek gold only in the pots, because by their capacity of strong concentrations, they can have retained much gold. All the quoted areas, can have an interest in the case of the recovery of gold on sand pits. The content in the beaches is of 0,2 decigrams to 4 grams with thecubic one. In the pots the average content is of 10 grams to m3.
