Intrigue

Prince Amerigo, noble a Italian ruined but charismatic, saw with London since he married Maggie Verver. Maggie is the single girl of Adam, a richissime American business man and Collectionneur of Article.

Right before its marriage, Amerigo meets Charlotte Stants, her former mistress, in the streets of London and they are put in search of a gift for Maggie. They enter a curious shop finally, or the antique dealer presents a splendid ancient gold cut to them. But, with honesty, the merchant announces a quasi undetectable félure to them. After some hesitations, Amerigo declines the offer.

A little later Maggie persuades his/her father to marry Charlotte, very being unaware of her relations passed with Amerigo. Charlotte accepts. The father and the girl remain very close one to the other and hardly invest themselves in their marriage. Feeling forsaken, the Prince and Charlotte leave more and more in the London company and end up making the aldultère.

Maggie starts with suspecter Amerigo and Charlotte. Its suspicion grows when after having bought by chance the gold cut at an high price, the merchant returns to see it to inform it of the crack. Seeing a photograph of Charlotte and Amerigo, he tells him how by extraordinary, this cut failed to be bought by the couple of photography.

Maggie confronts her husband and operates skilfully to save its marriage. She gradually persuades her father to turn over to America with his wife all while hiding the truth to him. She lies to Charlotte while hiding to him that there is no charge against her. Amerigo is impressed by his wife who appears on the occasion an empowered woman and fine diplomatic whereas it has it regarded as an immature and naive young girl.
