Goito

Goito is a common of the Province of Mantoue in Lombardy in Italy.

Geography

Goito is located at a score of kilometers in the North-West of the town of Mantoue.

History

Goito owes its name to the invaders Goths who at the 5th century had made a fortified town of rectangular form of it (Castrum Godii).

Built on Right Bank of the Mincio, the city occupies of this fact a strategic position, not of required passage to cross the river. The city was strengthened on several occasions during its history. They is there that the armies of the Piedmont at the time of the fight for the independence of Italy, gained back-to-back against the Austrians two battles in 1848, the April 8th and the May 30th.
