Godefroy de Saint-Omer
Godefroy de Saint-Omer (also known under the name of Geoffroi de Saint-Omer) was a Flemish knight and one of the founding members of the Ordre of the Temple in 1118. It is also presented like resulting from the family of the lords of Saint-Omer: Guillaume Ier, lord of Saint-Omer, and his/her Hugues son, took part in the first crusade as vassal of Robert II of Flanders. Hughes de Saint-Omer would have been then noticed there as being one of the best knights of the Royaume of Jerusalem. Chronologically, Godefroy was presented like the brother of Hugues, but it was also quoted as being his son. On the list of cross Gauthier of Saint-Omer is quoted, which could be an error relating to Godefroy (because Gauthier de Saint-Omer had not been born yet). That would like to thus say that Godefroy probably came to Jerusalem in 1099 with Guillaume I and Hughes. It was known as that Hugues de Payns (the first Master about the Temple) and Godefroy de Saint-Omer was so poor that they had only one mounting for two. From there the symbol would come from the templiers whom one can see on many their seals (see Sceaux of the Knights of the Temple).
