Godefroid II of Leuwen
Godefroid II of Leuwen , born towards 1100, dead the June 13rd 1142, was count de Louvain, landgrave of the Brabant, marquis d' Anvers and duke of Low-Lotharingie ( Godefroid VI ) of 1140 with 1142. It was wire of Godefroid Ier of Leuwen, count de Louvain, of Brussels, landgrave of the Brabant, marquis d' Anvers and duke of Low-Lotharingie, and Ide de Chiny.
His/her father associated it in 1136 and it carried the ducal title starting from this date, dignity which was confirmed by the emperor Conrad III, of which it had married the sister-in-law.
His/her father had obtained during several years the duchy of Low-Lotharingie, but this one had been withdrawn to him with the profit of Waléran de Limbourg. His/her father and Waléran died in a few months of interval. The emperor gave the Lowone to Godefroid, but the son of Waléran, Henri II of Limbourg, asserted the duchy, but Godefroid reacts vigorously and demolished very quickly the count de Limbourg.
Unfortunately, he died two years later of a disease of the liver. He was buried in the Saint-Pierre church of Leuwen.
Marriage and children
He married towards 1139 Lutgarde de Soulzbach (1109 † 1163), girl of Bérengar II, count de Soulzbach and lord of Bamberg, and Adelaide of Lechsgemünd. Luitgarde was sister of Gertrude, which married the emperor Conrad III. They had:- Godefroid III of Leuwen (1140 † 1190), count de Louvain, landgrave of the Brabant, marquis d' Anvers and duke of Low-Lotharingie.
