God off War

God off War is a Video game of action of the type Beat them all developed by Sony Studios Santa Monica under the direction of David Jaffe and published by Sony Computer Entertainment in 2005 on PlayStation 2.

It is about the first episode of the series God off War.

Gameplay

The player directs Kratos in a sight “to the third nobody”. The visual angles are composed of fixed plans or precalculated Travelling. The Gameplay is inspired many references by the kind like Onimusha: Warlords and Devil May Cry : the player fights hordes of enemies and free new weapons during the play. He can recover energy or experiment by absorbing the spheres which escape from the overcome enemies. With the wire of the play, the hero recovers the capacities of the Gods in order to conclude his mission (the lightning of Zeus for example). The jouability is extremely frantic, it is possible to fight several enemies at the same time, of the aggriper, to project them in the air, etc… By carrying out combo S devastators, Kratos can more quickly increase the power of the weapons. Once the player sufficiently weakened a monster (for example a Cyclops), it can complete it by carrying out mini-plays strapping which requires to press on the keys in rate/rhythm. Centered on the action, the play also includes phases of platform and exploration.

The title is characterized by its extreme representation of violence (torn off members, broken throat cuts, spinal columns, etc), which explains why it is disadvised to the players of less than 18 years.

History

Kratos is a frightening warrior Spartiate. Armed with the “Blades of Chaos”, he is the champion of the gods of Olympe, in charge of the missions which no man could carry out.

Formerly captain in the army Spartan, it was about to die under the attacks of an army of barbarians when it beseeched the help of Arès, the god of the War. Ares heard its call and in exchange of its heart offered its new weapons to him. Kratos then took again its road, from now on subjected to the orders of Ares, which required always more sacrifices…

One night, Kratos ordered with its troops to put at fire and blood a village which rented the Athéna goddess. It gave the responsability itself to kill all the people present in the temple, and even the Oracle of the village could not prevent it from making the irrevocable one. Because in this temple the woman and the girl of Kratos were, which it killed in its fatal madness. This massacre had been planned per Arès, so that the Spartan does not have any more fasteners, and is devoted to the god whom it served. But Kratos, nauseated by itself, rejected Arès. And on the square of the set ablaze temple, Oracle curses the warrior so that ashes of his dead wife and her daughter of her hands stick to him forever with the skin. Any white, Kratos receives the nickname of phantom of Sparte but the greatest punishment was cauchemards representing its crimes which stick to him eternally.

Since, Kratos dreams only of revenge. It offered its services to the Gods of Olympe, hoping for forgiveness for its acts.

At the beginning of the play, Poséidon load Kratos to kill the Hydre de Lerne which devastates the ships of the Greek fleet on the Aegean Sea. After being itself discharged of this task, it calls the goddess Athéna. For ten years that it is with the service of the gods, it has awaited the reward which it wishes more than all: to forget the horrors which it made in the past. But front, Athéna requires of him to intervene in its favor. His/her Arès brother attacked his city, Athens, with the assistance of monsters straight left the Hells. Zeus having prohibited any conflict between gods, it cannot intervene directly. Athéna is formal: only a mortal trained by a god will be likely to overcome another god… The Olympian ones promise with their champion to forgive him the barbarous acts made in the past in the event of success. Besides these odious acts continue to haunt the spirit of Kratos, and make it increasingly insane.

Arrived at Athens, Kratos cuts through a path between the Cyclops S, thealive ones and the Gorgone S, to meet in way the Fossoyeur, which digs a tomb with the right in the middle of the battle field. It arrives finally at the Temple of the city where Oracle reveals to him that the only means of overcoming a god for a mortal is to enter in possession of the Pandora's box, enclosed at the bottom of the Temple of Pandora, that Titan Chronos is condemned to relate to its back in the swirls of sand of the Desert of the lost hearts.

Kratos manages to reach the temple of Pandora, in spite of the envoûtant song of the Sirène S. keeps It, first man to have tried to thwart the traps of the Temple, without success, opens the doors to him. Inside, three challenges await it, three labyrinths set up and designed in honor of Atlas, Poséidon and Hadès, by Pathos Verdes and its two sons. Kratos manages to survive the tests, by killing in particular the Minotaure, guard of the last tunnel.

After having explored fall it and survived the traps imagined by the architect in his madness, Kratos finds finally the Pandora's box. But Arès feels it, seizes enormous remains of the Athenian buildings, and a such javelin launches it towards Kratos, which is found impaled and died. Kratos is found with the Hells, but does not hope to resign itself. It clings, and tries to avoid falling into Styx, until a convenient cord enables him to leave… before being found vis-a-vis the Grave-digger, in the middle of Athens!

Kratos hastens to join Arès, to take again the Pandora's box to him and to open it, to defy the god of the war. Ares uses its capacities to create the illusion of an army of Kratos démoniaques wanting to kill his wife and her daughter, that the god claims to be able ressusciter. But Kratos still manages to protect its adored, and to demolish the plan of Ares. In its rage, this one includes to him the Blades of chaos, and all the capacities which the gods had offered to him during his tour. However, Kratos finds a sword, last gift of the gods, thanks to whom he manages to kill Arès, and to save Athens.

Later, Kratos will require of Athéna to hold its promise. And Athéna holds it: the gods forgive him its faults passed, but do not deprive it of its memories. Feeling betrayed and given up, it tries to commit suicide by throwing higher cliffs of Greece. But a force retains it, and brings back it to the top. Athéna transmits a message of the gods to him: they will not let it die in this way. Moreover, the throne of the god of the War is vacant. After being itself considering giving the Blades of Athéna, Kratos penetrates in Colisée of Olympe, and takes seat on the seat which is from now on his.

Kratos thus becomes the first mortal with becoming a god…

Capacities

By defect, Kratos fights armed with the Blades of Chaos, two broad scraping-knives attached by chains to its front armlevers. During the play, the gods of Olympe come in person to give him additional capacities:
  • the anger of Poséidon: the god of the Seas gives to Kratos the capacity to create a swirl electrified devastator around him, effective when a big number of enemies attacks you.

  • the glance of Jellyfish: after having killed it, Aphrodite allows Kratos to use the head of Jellyfish to transform into stone statue her opponents.

  • the lightning of Zeus: the Master of the Gods comes in person to give the warrior what appears like the only weapon with long distance of the play.

  • the sword of Artémis: the two Blades of Chaos amalgamate in broad and heavy sword, which makes a misfortune at short distance.

  • the army of died of Hadès: the damnées hearts come to lend strong hand to Kratos to destroy the creatures of Ares.
