God come from the Centaur (original title: The Three stigmata off Micrometer caliper Eldritch , the three Stigmates of Micrometer caliper Eldritch ) is a novel going back to 1965 writing by Philip K. Dick.

As in the majority of its works, Philip K. Dick develops a universe complex and diverting by mixing reality skilfully and of the hallucinatory worlds, for better surprising its reader. This book is also one of its first containing the topic of the religion.

Summary

Under the control of the the United Nations, the man colonized each livable planet and the moon of the Solar system in order to mitigate a warming of the Earth become too unbearable for the majority of the human beings.

But the life on these colonies is monotonous, being summarized only with the maintenance of its personal garden or to play with accessories like headstocks imported of the Earth by a company called Combiné P.P.

The latter benefits from it to import, illegally, a drug called D-Read (Crystallize in English, candy = confectionery) with the colonists so that they can " translater" in the headstocks Stalemate or Walt and food a collective Hallucination while turning over on a Earth idealized for a rather short time.

For better controlling the market of the headstocks, or other accessories, compounds P.P. employ précogs which evaluate their future popularity.

Barney Mayerson, one of most important the précog of Compounds P.P., was called to go over Mars. Mayerson had just started a relation with its assistant Ronnie Fugate, although he is still in love with his Emily ex-wife, creative artist of ceramics.

The second husband of Emily tries to sell the potteries with the PP compounds but is made them refuse after Mayerson had recognized it. Disappointed, it is made recruit, against an important sum, by a new organization which wants to compete with compounds P.P. thanks to a new drug, K-Priss (Chew-Z in VO, choosy = demanding). Benefitting from this money, him and his wife meet a doctor to begin a évolthérapie as could do it in the past men like Léo Bulero, owner of compounds P.P. But, unfortunately that will fail on Emily and will have the opposite effect.

During this time, safe UNO on Pluto of the crash landing of its exiled vessel old, Eldritch Micrometer caliper, which returned from the Proxien system. Léo Bulero hears rumors on this new extraterrestrial drug hallucinatory K-Priss and on the imminence of its marketing in the colonies by Palmer Eldritch with the approval of UNO. After a discussion with Ronnie Fugate, it-also précog, it learns that it will kill Eldritch in the future. Of fear of losing its monopoly and to try to stop its future, Bulero tries to meet Eldritch but this one is held in quarantine in a hospital UNO.

Some time later, Bulero, under the appearance of a journalist, leaves on an artificial satellite the Earth where Palmer Eldritch is about to give a conference. Bulero is removed and forced to take of K-Priss into intravenous. It enters an imaginary world which seems directed by Palmer Eldritch. After a sharp dispute with Eldritch which explains to him why it returned to take the control of the solar system to facilitate an arrival of the inhabitants of the system proxien, Bulero travels in another world which seems to be the Earth of the future. The human advanced ones identify it like a phantom of last and show him a set up statue of him after it killed Palmer Eldritch " enemy of the system solaire".

After Eldritch had released it from the influence of K-Priss, Léo Bulero returns on Earth and lays off Mayerson which had been frightened too much to come to help it, after having entraperçu its death if it came to its help. Mayerson accepts its fate and its departure for Mars but Bulero decides to urge it like Double agent in order to harm K-Priss and to allow D-Read to remain the only drug offered to the colonists. For that, after having taken of K-Priss to the eyes of its future neighbors, it will have to absorb discreetly a virus epileptic and to bring a lawsuit against this drug for its harmful character.

During its voyage, then on Mars, Mayerson meets neo-christian, Anne Hawthorne, of which it éprend. Over Mars, Mayerson will buy of K-Priss delivered by Palmer Eldritch in person in a holographic form. Mayerson will enter this hallucinatory world, contained in the spirit of Eldritch, and will revive certain times of its past where he was still married in Emily. But it will draw any only from the spite because it is impossible for him to control its hallucinations. Frustrated, it will steal the share of Anne to turn over in this world and, this time, to try to change the events.

After having discussed with Eldritch its influence on this world, he will travel in the future like his ex-owner, Léo Bulero. It will arrive in the buildings of Compounds P.P. two years after the drug-taking, in the form of a phantom, and will speak with Léo Bulero, Fugate and its future oneself. Throughout its temporal voyage, he will see, through the inhabitants of this world, of the recognizable demonstrations of Eldritch by his three marks: a robot-like right hand, teeth out of steel and eyes artificial.

Eldritch will explain to him why its goal is to help humanity and will propose in Mayerson what he wants. When Mayerson chooses death, Eldritch exchanges their bodies at the moment when Bulero is on the point of killing it.

At the fateful time, Mayerson awakes of its hallucination and finds Léo which wishes to bring back it on Earth. The owner of compounds P.P. changes opinion when he learns that Mayerson refuses to take the virus which was to enable him to harm K-Priss, which arranges Mayerson which wants to remain on Mars.
Later, while discussing its experiment with Anne, it understands that only the body of Eldritch returned from the system proxien. It was made have by an interstellar entity which could be connected with God. Mayerson is convinced that a share of Eldritch saw in him since they exchanged their bodies.

While turning over on Earth, Bulero and all the members of the vessel develop the three marks of Eldritch Micrometer caliper.
