Go U-yeong
Go U-yeong born the September 27th 1938 in Mandchourie and dead the April 25th 2005 in Korea is regarded as one of the most important authors of Manhwa of the Années 1970 and 1980.
Go U-yeong arrives to Korea at the end of the Second world war and starts to draw its first manhwa, Jwidoli during the Guerre of Korea whereas it is interned in a prison camp. It is the daily newspaper Ilgan Sport which publishes its first important work on January 1st 1972, Im Keok-jeong , which will make its author famous and will launch a new kind of manhwa for adults. It is the first length manhwa on a historical subject published in Korea. Go U-yeong specializes then in the adaptation of Korean and Chinese traditional novels. Its manhwa most famous is an adaptation of the Histoire of the Three kingdoms , Samgukji which is the first manhwa for adults to meet an immense success. One also owes him of other very popular adaptations like Suhoji , Iljimae (1975-1977) and Hong Kil-dong . The style of Go U-yeong is rather simple. The fitting of the boxes is traditional without effects of construction. The decorations are at least reduced. The account connects dramatic situations and humorous. The personalities and cararactères of the characters are enlarged and exaggerated.
Although its manhwas was neither licencieux nor submersifs or criticisms towards the military dictatorship, Go U-yeong had to face the censure. The historical accounts of its manhwas are subtle metaphors of the contemporary company and parody the Korean company. In 1979, 100 pages of Samgukji were censured for violence and nudity. Á matter of this experiment it states “to be run up against by a military truck (the military regime) and that following the shock its members were torn off”.
