Go Roanne-Thiers

Walk Roanne - Thiers is a historical walk born according to a banal history dating from the beginning of the 20th century (legend?).

The history would like that this walk was born from a " pari" between friends. Indeed three friends left a spectacle to Roanne about midnight. One two proposed with the others to come to drink aperitif at his place. However this last lived Thiers and the aperitif must be caught before midday. Thus they carried out the Roanne-Thiers way with foot while leaving at midnight with for objective arriving before midday.

History

The first edition takes place in 1925. It is inaugurated by Lucien Clairet and account 3 participants.

The 2nd edition will take place only in 1930 and will count 7 participants.

Since, the race is organized the first weekend of December. The departure takes place at midnight, in the night of the Saturday to Sunday. It is necessary to arrive before midday to be entitled to an honorary certificate of the performance. The race does not have vocation of competition at all. No control is carried out. However of many people try to go always more quickly and carry out the distance almost entirely while running.

The direction of the course varies one year out of two (2003: Roanne - > Thiers, 2004: Thiers - > Roanne, 2005: Roanne - > Thiers…)
