Biography
Following the departure in exile of his/her father in the Province of Tosa after the Revolt of Jōkyū, in 1221, the Go-Saga future is raised by the maternal side of its family. In 1242, after the sudden and accidental death of the Shijō emperor at the 10 years age, the question of the succession is posed, and the wills of the nobility at court and the Bakufu being contrary, it is bitterly disputed. Michiie Kujō and the nobility at court supports prince Tadanari (忠成王), a son of the emperor withdrawn Juntoku, but the Shikken Yasutoki Hōjō is opposed to the accession descendants of Juntoku because of the implication of this one in the revolt of Jōkyū. In the place, it supports prince Kunihito, wire of Tsuchimikado, as a neutral character, for the accession under emperor. Because of these negotiations, the throne remains vacant during 11 days, after which Kunihito, which is then Buddhist monk , gives up the dress and goes up on the throne.
In 1246, Go-Saga abdicates in favor of his/her son Go-Fukakusa and begins its reign as a emperor withdrawn. In 1259, it constrained Go-Fukakusa to be abdicated in favor of his/her little brother Kameyama, which leads thereafter to a reign by alternation between the two lines of the Jimyōin-tō (descendants of Go-Fukakusa) and of the Daikakuji-tō (descendants of Kameyama).
In 1252, another of its sons, the prince Munetaka, becomes Shogun, following what the shoguns of Kamakura following will be selected among the members of the imperial house. However, truth capacity remains with the hands of the regents Hōjō.
