Gnomonique

The gnomonic (of the Greek gnomon , indicator) is art to conceive, calculate and trace sundials.

  • One of the first tests on the gnomonique one was written by the German Jésuite Athanasius Kircher in 1635, whereas he was professor in Avignon: Primitiae gnomonicae catoptricae, hoc is horologiographiae novae specularis .
  • Dom Bedos of Those publishes in 1760 practical Gnomonique or Art to trace the sundials with the highhest degree of accuracy , one of best treated time on this subject.

Another use of the term

The gnomonic Projection is a cartographic Projection where the point of prospect is in the center of the spheroid.
