Gnaeus Domitius Calvinus
Cnaeus Domitius Calvinus is a general, senator and a Roman consul. He was a faithful partisan of César and Octavianus.
Domitius Calvinus came from a noble family.
In 53 before j-c, he is consul, in spite of a notorious electoral scandal.
He was side of César during the civil war with Pompée. With the decisive battle of Pharsalus, it ordered the center of the army of César.
After the battle he became governor of Asia. He tried to be opposed to the invasion of Pharnaces, king de Bosphore who had taken the occasion of the Roman civil war to invade the province of Bridges.
In December 48 before j-c., he suffered a defeat crushing mill with the battle from Nicopolis in Arménie.
In 47 before j-c, the direct intervention of César has to accelerate this war, and armed with Pharnaces was destroyed in Zela.
In spite of this failure, there remained a friend of confidence of César.
In 43 before j-c, of the activities of Domitius Calvinus after the death of César are unknown, but he is a defender of Octavianus and taken part in the civil war against Brutus and Cassius.
In 42 before j-c, during the countryside of Philippe, it had to bring reinforcements of Italy to Greece for the army of Marc Antoine and Octavianus, however its fleet was destroyed by the enemy at sea Ionian with the loss of two legions.
In 40 before j-c, in spite of this defeat it was allotted the honor of a second consulate and was sent by Octavianus as governor of Spain, where it remained 3 years (39-36 before j-c. Apparently, its military activities in Spain had success, since on its return it was allotted a triumph and was greeted like imperator by its troops.
It also rebuilt Regia in the Roman forum.
Although we do not have many news of its other political activities, of the inscriptions dating from year 20 before j-c proves that it was still alive and member of the priesthood of the brothers of Arval, reserved only with the family members imperial and its most distinguished defenders.
