Glovelier
Glovelier is a common Suisse of the Canton of the Jura.
Geography
The commune of Glovelier is to 12 km as the crow flies with the west-south-west of Delémont, with the foot of Combe-Tabeillon, which goes down from the plate of the Frank-Mountains. The locality is sprinkled by the brook Tabeillon.The point low is at the village, 505 meters of altitude, and the point highest with 1' 004 meters of altitude, with the Jolimont locality.
History
The archaeological discoveries make it possible to affirm that the area was inhabited with the Bronze Age and at the time Roman.Of 1793 with 1815, Glovelier belonged to the France, in the department of the Mount-Terrible , then in that of the Haut-Rhin. Following a decision of the Congress of Vienna, in 1815, the commune of Glovelier was allotted to the canton of Bern.
Since January 1st 1979, the common one belongs to the Canton of the Jura.
Economy
Agricultural village until the end of the 19th century, Glovelier was industrialized with the development of the manufacture of boxes of watches. Today, the locality shelters in particular the Biwi company, specialized in the moulding of elastomers and plastics, and the company PIBOR Iso, which manufactures components of boxes of watches.An industrial sawmill, pertaining to Corbat Holding, is an important manufacturer of cross-pieces of railroad.
