Glottalisation

The glottalisation is a term of Phonétique implying that a sound (Consonne or Voyelle) is accompanied by a movement of closing of the Glotte (or “Glottal stop”).

The term, relatively vague, can describe several realities:

  • a deaf Consonne constrictive glottalized can be éjective;
  • a sound Consonne constrictive can be Injective.
Noter that all the glottalized consonants are not inevitably éjectives or injective. In certain cases, the glottalisation gives only one consonant accompanied by a Glottal stop without the laryngeal characteristics of the consonants to Flux glottal.

A glottalized sound notes in International Phonetic Alphabet by means of the symbol (resulting from that for the glottal stop,) placed before or after the modified sound, according to whether the closing of the glottis precedes or follows the emission of the sound. When the sound obtained is éjective, one prefers the apostrophizes () whereas there exist characters specific to Crosse for the injective ones (). Lastly, the cracked voice can be noted by the Tilde subscribes ().
