Glossu Rabban is a minor character Cycle of Dune, of Frank Herbert. This character is developed more in the under-cycle Before Dune .
Rabban the Animal is the oldest nephew of the Baron Vladimir Harkonnen and for this reason in first line for its succession, the Baron not having a descent. He inherited the cruel and sadistic character of the Harkonnen, but without their intelligence contrary to the other nephew of the Baron, Feyd-Rautha.
He car-proclaims “the Animal” after having killed his father of his own hands. Whereas Raban had come to seek his/her young brother Feyd-Rautha in his father, on the orders of his uncle, his father interposed. He declared in Raban, which threatened to kill it, that he could not make it, because he was a man and not an animal. He did it nevertheless and it is what gives him its nickname. Rabban was the name of his/her mother.
