Gloria Lasso

Gloria Lasso born Rosa María Coscolin (Vilafranca de Penedès, Catalonia, November 25th 1922 - Cuernavaca, Mexico, December 4th 2005), is a Spanish Chanteuse and French of light and melody song known in Europe and Latin America. Its songs generally exploit its Spanish origin, which they take again of the Latin standards or although they adapt to the sauce castanets American or French tubes (like Gondolier for example, that it disputed a long time in Dalida). The voice of Gloria Lasso is easily recognizable by its astonishing trilles roucoulantes, which was worth to him the nickname of “Nightingale Inhabitant of Madrid” (although it was originating in Catalonia).

The legend wants that, whereas it was intended for the career of nurse, Gloria Lasso had to replace with the foot raised to the radio inhabitant of Barcelona a singer fallen sick, which determined its vocation. It becomes high-speed motorboat in France in the Années 1950, with in particular Amour, castanets and tango (1955), Étranger with the paradise (1956), taken again Stranger in paradise of Tony Bennett, first disc sold to a million specimens in France, or Buenas noches semi amor (1957), Bon voyage (1958), would not be annoyed (1959) or If you return one day (1960). It incarnated at the time Latin exoticism and the vogue of the voices with accent. It was supplanted besides in the Années 1960 by its rival italo-Egyptian woman, Dalida. Exiled since in Mexico, it tries nevertheless a return in France in 1985 to the Olympia.

Married at least six times, in general with men much younger than it, one allotted to him the reputation of “devourer of men”. She claimed herself on the contrary very wise since she never said not to mislead her husbands, preferring to change some when ceased it liking them.

The revival Kitsch of these last years gave it to the last style while making some a gay icon . Its songs (often of love) are besides particularly light and melody, very characteristic of the orchestrations primesautières and romantic of the fifties, with force violins, guitars, trumpets and castanets.

She succumbed of a Infarctus, around 4 p.m., Sunday December 4th 2005 in her residence with Cuernavaca at the 83 years age, whereas she had quietly sat.
